Debugging Question

When I use the step by step debugger I have encountered with an error in C#
..NET 2003,
When I have a Watch: "Convert.ToInt32(i)"
And one of the lines in the code: "long i=2;"

When the debugger reaches this line, the step by step process terminates and
the program stops.
I don't know why but it alwase happening.
Is it sopose to happen?
