custom control contest

On an empty ASP.NET page, a placeholder is added.

On this page, a literal is added dynamicly, through the placeholder.
On the same page, a custom control is dragged.
The same custom control is also added through the placeholder.

None of the properties of the placeholder, the literal, or the 2
custom controls are changed.

The literal is visible.
The dragged custom control is visible.
The dynammicly added custom control is not visible.

The custom control and the page do not contain code to hide the
control, when a second instance of the control is added.
How is this possible?
