visual studio walkthroughs #1 - networking set up firewall no proxy

kdt
Hi

I do a certain amount of VS6 development and have been trying to get my feet wet in .net. This may be a bit of a newbie question though

I am trying to do the Distributed Applications walkthrough in the Visual Studio.net Walkthroughs book that came with the software

I'm having a problem with it detecting my internet connection. We are on a peer to peer network behind a firewall, but with no proxy server. I have no problem going online with both IE and Netscape. I created up a web service with Data connection to a server I have access to outside our firewall, which tested as working, and built without error

However in the Web Appication component I received errors when trying to add the web reference. I found this page and uncommented the "<!--<add verb="*" path="*.vsdisco"........." line, which did indeed get me further down the path, see
http://support.microsoft.com/default...kb;en-us;30730

However, now it gives the error "The proxy settings on this computer are not configured correctly for web discovery.
This link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...PROXYSERVER.as
says that I need to specify my proxy server. We do not use one, but we do have a firewall

Am I missing something here? Do I need our firewall administrator to make changes for this to work (unlikely

Keit
