service hanging on startup after install

Hi chaps,
I have .net framework 2002 sp2 installed and am deploying a C# listener
service to handle calls to a database via remoting. Win 2K sp3 environment.
If I install the sevice using an msi created using a Visual Studio setup
project for the service and specify the domain user name and password for
the service during setup, the service hangs on starting until I go into the
services dialog and change the service account to local system, then back to
the original service account and it starts perfectly. I have already granted
"log on as a service" to the service account I wish to use.

Having done this once, the service can be uninstalled and reinstalled and
there is no problem. Any ideas?
