Perhaps I've got it all wrong (System.InvalidCastException: QueryInterface for interface...failed)

I'm writing a small console app in .NET that needs to reference a 3rd
party dll.

I wrote the app by adding a reference to the 3rd party dll in my
project and my code builds and executes perfectly. However, when I
made a setup file and installed it on another box, I get:

System.InvalidCastException: QueryInterface for interface...Failed.

when the console app tires to reference the dll. I can see that the
setup file registered the dll and my understanding of .NET was that it
would help make sure all of your references followed your app, but I
get this error.

Am I looking in the right direction to think that the dll is the
problem? If so, are there pitfalls to using dlls with .NET that I
should be examining or avoiding? Or, does the QueryInterface failure
error mean something else entirely?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

peace,
j
