Is "Whidbey" available to MSDN subscribers?

P: n/a
I see posts concerning the use of Whidbey, I am new to
MSDN, and I would very much like to try it out.

There is even a "hands on tutorial", but the requirement
is that you have Whidbey installed (so it would go to
reason that you can get it somehow).

#2 - Can I read this newsgroup in something other than a
browser... I would like to use a newsgroup reader, that I
can setup to my tastes...

TIA, with much appreciation

You can call MSDN subscriber services and tell them to mail you the DVD.

news://msnews.microsoft.com/

That's the NNTP server. Just point your news reader to it and you're set.

I don't believe that the Whidbey beta is publicly available, although I
could well be wrong. It's relatively widely privately available, if you
see what I mean. I believe that the beta program is now closed though,
unfortunately. Mind you, I could well be wrong...

Yup, use the news server news.microsoft.com and use whatever newsreader
you like. Personally I'm a fan of Microplanet Gravity...

Nope Widbey is not available as a download to subscribers... you have to
call up msdn customer services and ask them for dvd...

as for newgroups... i use outlook express... added a news link to my outlook
which opens outlook newsreader
use msnews.microsoft.com and you have access to all ms ngs

Duh, this is for Longhorn. Sorry. You get Whidbey if you're in the beta
program only, AFAIK.

Hi Brad,

If you are a MSDN Universal subscriber you can request your
local customer service center to despatch PDC DVD Kit.
It came with MSDN December packet.

Thanks to all that replied.

I called microsoft this morning, and I am going to get a
copy of Whidbey, and Longhorn.

I also appreciate the info about the newsgroups, since I
got to them from a "managed newsgroups" link, I had
thought they were private (and thus I couldn't use my
newsreader, which is Agent BTW).

Thanks again,

Whidbey *is* available to MSDN subscribers. When you download the Longhorn
beta, what you get is the same as what was handed out at the PDC and it
include the Whidbey beta as well.

Mea culpa! I double checked and "Whidbey" is *not* included with the
Longhorn download (what a rip off!!)

Chris,
Originally you had to call MSDN customer service and request the PDC disks
which gave you Longhorn & Whidbey DVDs.

When the Longhorn became available as a download, due to the number of
requests, I understand that you could still call and request the DVDs.

However that was a couple of months ago am not sure if its still possible to
request them over the phone, I would expect you could.

Hope this helps
Jay
