Help installing on XP!

I'm trying to install Visual Studio .NET 2003 Academic on
an XP Home machine but my machine immediately does a full
restart as soon as the Prerequisities cd is accessed.

Any suggestions?

I've tried doing the usual such as emptying the temp
folder, turning off Norton antivirus/firewall, and
shutting down nearly every non-critical service but
nothing helps.

I'm thinking the install program thinks it must restart
for some reason, there must be something triggering that
routine.
