Can't Install VSTO after Office 2003 IS installed

After installing Office 2003 PRO and attempting to run
SETUP to install the Visual Studio Tools for Office
version 2003, I get the error message "Your computer must
have Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 installed
before you can install Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for
the Microsoft Office System.". SETUP terminates after
clicking OK.

I have VS Ent Arch 2003 installed on the machine. In
fact, I previously had the beta Office 2003 and beta VSTO
installed and working fine. I uninstalled them before
installing the new Office 2003. I have tried everything
I know to do. I have done a Reinstall/repair, Add or
Remove Features to enable all optional features (Run on
my computer), and even uninstall and Complete Install on
Office Pro 2003 with no change in the VSTO SETUP
program. This is on an XP Pro system.

What is VSTO SETUP looking for? The complete Office 2003
Pro system *is* installed.

Hmmm... guess I'll respond to my own question just for
the record.

I went ahead and opened an incident with Microsoft about
this. It is a known problem, even though I could not
find anything about it using KB searches. I got a call
from MS and they explained how to extract the files and
install the product from the .msi file instead of using
the SETUP which obviously has a problem.

Anyway, problem resolved.

Chuck,

Just curious. Do you have the Trial edition of Office Pro or the full retail
version? I ask because the version of Office we gave out at the Office
Launch events was a Trial edition, not the full version, due to production
constraints. And Visual Studio Tools for Office doesn't work with the Trial
edition of Office Pro.

What I have installed is the full Pro version that was
mailed following the Launch event. It was not handed out
at the event. The copy of VSTO I had problems with was
handed out at the Launch event. Perhaps the problem does
not occur with the retail distribution. The problem
seems to be with SETUP on the handed out VSTO CD. The
install problem is easy to get around once you know the
proper manual install procedure.
