If the main parking lot is crowded, you can drive to the "back" parking
lot. To get to the back lot, instead of turning left on Scripps Lake Drive,
don't turn left until Meanley Dr. There is a lot at the end of the
cul-de-sac with the library at the far end of a short well-lit walkway.

Featured Presenter for Upcoming Meeting:

We are very pleased to have Michèle Leroux Bustamante as our featured
speaker for the November San Diego .NET User Group meeting. Michèle
Leroux Bustamante is an Associate of IDesign Inc., an internationally
known speaker, and author. Before joining IDesign, she spent over 10
years working for companies in San Diego and held several lead
architect and executive positions. At IDesign Michele contributes her
diverse background to .NET training and high-end corporate consulting.
Her expertise spans technologies related to graphics and imaging, COM
and high-availability Internet applications, with a hands-on background
developing enterprise applications with VB, C++, Java/J2EE and C#/.NET.
Michele speaks regularly at technical conferences such as VSLive!,
DevConnections, SD Expo, Web Services XML ONE, .NET ONE, and SDGN. She
is a member of the INETA (International .NET
Association) Speakers Bureau - a selection of recognized international
speakers designated to promote .NET worldwide. In 1993, Michele founded
the Microsoft programming curriculum at UCSD Extension, and since has
continued as Program Advisor to the VB, VC++,.NET and new Web Services
certificate programs. Michele is also founder of the .NET Dashboard
Reach her at: ml*@idesign.net
Michèle's topic is .NET Reflection & Code Access Security. .NET
reflection facilitates the discovery of type information at runtime,
dynamic class loading and method invocation, and the ability to emit
new types on the fly.

All of this power also raises concerns over the protection of your
proprietary objects, and how they are used once deployed. This
presentation demonstrates how code access security works, and
demonstrates what you can and cannot do to secure type access for
compiled and dynamically emitted types, with the help of security
attributes. Discussion will review system accessibility rules, code access
security, and .NET reflection.

Due to the fire in San Diego County and the Scripps Ranch area, the San
Diego .NET User Group meeting scheduled for October 28th was canceled.
The speaker planned for that evening, Brad McCabe, is now scheduled to
appear at the January 27, 2004 meeting.

Meanwhile, our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those who
have lost their lives and those who have lost homes in the fire. We're
also deeply appreciative of the heroic efforts of our firefighters and
police, and we ask for your help and cooperation during this difficult
time and the reconstruction efforts that will follow.

Thanks for your understanding!

In addition to our featured guest speaker, we are pleased to welcome
San Diego Technical Books (SDTB) to our November meeting. SDTB will be
offering a sampling of new titles for .NET developers, priced at
10%-20% off regular prices. SDTB has also donated a couple of
excellent .NET books that will be added to our raffle prizes. San
Diego Technical Books has been a long-time supporter of the user group
community in San Diego County, and they will be in attendance from 6pm
to 8pm. Ask about their Frequent Buyer Program for even better
discounts. Their web site is http://www.booksmatter.com
