To run .NET, all windows platforms from 98 are supported. There are two
version available on Linux, with mono being my personal preference. I don't
think (but I'm not positive) that there are any other distributions
available.

Cheers,

Bill

The philosophy behind dotGNU and Mono is very different. Mono is here
because the Ximian developers recognized the benefits of .NET and because
they thought it would be nice to have these benefits on other operating
systems too. dotGNU is here to "defeat the monopolistic threat of
Microsoft's .NET " [sic]. dotGNU's philosophy seems a bit childish to me,
bet that's my personal opinion of course.

Having said that, Mono chose to implement the full .NET runtime, including
the non-standardized classes. dotGNU restricts itself to a much smaller
subset of the runtime [they're scared to death from Microsoft lawsuits].
This basically means that the dotGNU runtime is completely useless because
it misses several fundamental namespaces.

The Mono development also appears to go faster [even though they have to
implement much more than dotGNU].
