XML encoding options

I need to store special characters in an elament inside an
XML documents. Characters might include ^,*,$,#,=
etc... .Is there a special encoding that can be used to
accomplish this? Thanks!

you can encapsulate the text with these chars inside a CDATA tag. That
should do it.
