New APIs

Hi,

When and where will we be able to download these new namespaces?
Tanks.

Which new namespaces are you talking about?

Also, if they are from Microsoft, they usually don't announce release
dates until the last minute.

I would guess that they are not going to be released for a long time.
If it is in longhorn, then I would expect it to be distributed when longhorn
is shipped.

Well, people are crying for the functionality thats missing and this is NOT
dependant on LH. System.IO.Ports for one and others. I dont need the WinFS
and Avalon stuff. Why the other stuff should beheld back because of LH is
just bad. Sure hold the LH specific stuff but not the other classes.

Ok, "news.microsoft.com" (I really love it - look, guy, aht about behaving
al ittle and entering your name? Can not be SO complicated to use a
newsreader),

what do you want to download?

API's er definition are not downloadable.

Do you want the documentation?

Do you want the assemblies?

Do you want an installer that installs the new version?

In the last case - please uznderstand that it wil ltake string 2004 (!)
until you have access to an FIRST BETA. Currently there is only a very early
alpha and only for "serious deveoplers", as defined by them either visitnig
the PDC or having a MSDN Universal subscription.

thanx for indicating that I'm a serious developer just because I have a MSDN Universal subscripting ;-)

Although not having attended the PDC, I learned a lot from all the bloggers, especially that there will be a lot of new stuff in
Whidbey, and this is due next year.

Dont cry to me - go to your local MS representative and tell them. It was
their decision.

The "serious developer" is meant sarcastic - I really dont understand why
they dont allow ocopying of the DVD's and put this into th broad public.

I have to admit, I find the whole "serious developer" part amusing (only
because I think the definition is ludicrous, to be honest).

For the record, bits were given out at the PDC (and they didn't ask you
if you were a "serious developer" or not) to all attendees.

MSDN subscribers have not gotten alpha bits of whidbey either. It would
be listed as part of the manifest on the website for the subscriptions.

There were select groups of people that were exposed to the alpha bits,
which were not allowed to speak about them until the announcement at the
PDC. I had the alpha bits, for example. The critera for that is up to
Microsoft (and I don't think they ask if you are a "serious developer" in
order to meet their criteria).

OK, I can get it anyway, if I want, because I indeed have the universal subscription.
But you are right, they should spread it all over the world...

I also don't understand, why MS wants US$ 499,- for the PDC DVD with the WMVs and PowerPoint slides of the sessions.
IMHO they should sell this just for the cost of shipment, this was the best act of promotion they could do...

But they are available to (at least) universal subscribers. I've already
ordered it. Accoring to the MS operator, they were supposed to begin
