Moore's Law Is Violated

Have you noticed that
processors have not been
getting twice as fast
and costing half as much
every 18 months?

No wonder Intel and Microsoft
are on the skids. They've
both been riding Moore's
Law -- and now the Law
has been struck down.

Hi Baiiiiilo ,
You investigate :
" Have you noticed that processors
have not been getting twice as fast
and costing half as much every 18 months ? "
No , But I have noticed that
I've been happily using the same PC for seven years now .

And I've noticed that
I could do a major upgrade for only 200 dollars :
DVD ROM , Half Gig of RAM , Pentium III , WinMe ,
40 Gigs of fixed disk , Sound card , etc. .

That's progress .

Never heard that version of Moore's law.

But when he originally stated his law he said that the amount of transistors
on integrated circuits would double EVERY year. Years later he changed that
to every 18 months. It will probably slow down even more in the future.
The ideas about decrementing costs were never formulated by Moore. The idea
is you get more computing power for the same price. It never talks about
being half of it as far as i know.

Interesting....

I'm just reading this week's eWeek magazine. On page 42, there is an
article entitled "Moore's Law lives on".

The article is about HyperTransport 1.1 and how it allows processors to
increase performance.

Close but Moore said 18 months to 2 years. Most believe that 'Moores' law
will hold true for another 30-50 years.

Well Scott... If you beieve everything you read.... then RH will be
taking over the world.... BillGates already has a condo in hell.... and
owns the Air Conditioning Franchise......

'LAWS' are established based on current information of the day.... and then
again we do live in a flat world... right ?

If you go faster than 50, you will rip the skin off your face...... OK, so
there goes the need for liposuction after all those 'healthy'
whoppers.......

I get my humor from reading the crap you folks ummmmmm discuss(?) with a
passon.....it adds a touch of reality at 5:30 in the morning..... I want
to know... who is going to pay for the coffee stains on the carpet...
caused from my laughter at all this crap?

Remember Scott..... the world is flat...... and maybe if we are lucky....
he will fall off the western edge......

I want to know... Since Bill has the AC franchise...... how is Big John
(hereafter known as BJ) going to stay cool in hell when he arrives...... ?
then again..... all that air he keeps blowing out..... should bring some
relief.....
