Well mostly it depends on personal preference with the
profliteration of so many languages and ways to
access/display data.
As far as rapid web application development is concerned
arguably dot net is the way to go in my opinion. In
addition it seems that most companies are using C# as
their standard language in dot net therefore it might not
be a bad idea to learn dot net through C#. It's pretty
attactive to companies to be able to maintain code you've
developed and if they mostly lean towards C# well I guess
do the math.
Bottom line though C# vs. VB.Net is all a matter of
preference one is not any more efficient than the other,
however both are considerably more efficent than classic
VB. In your case it may be easier to learn VB.Net.
DotNet is almost centered around XML thus they almost go
hand in hand. XML is not that hard to learn if you know
HTML or the DOM object model.
Typically for rapid development I use C#, XML, and SQL
Server. Keep in mind there are a plethora of examples
within MSDN on how to do almost anything you need.
Utilize that and you'll probably be just fine.

I'm being offered a project for a pharmaceutical company
to keep track oftheir sales/purchases/stocks online (web/internet). I
want advice about thebest development platform for this. I'm comfortable with
VB6 but that aloneis not enough to develop web applications besides I want
to learn VB.NET. Sowhat should I use? VB.NET with ASP? XML? I'll probably
have SQL Server atthe backend.
What is the most efficent combination. Or can I do it
with a single tool?
