Code Snippets

I'm attempting to supplement the help for my code by providing other developers with code snippets that demonstrate how to use my classes/method.

I've created a .snippet file and have placed it in the "<Visual Studio Folder>\Code Snippets\Visual Basic\My Snippets" folder.

I've used the Code Snippets Manager and ensured that it included this folder so that I can access the snippets.

Everything works well when I have 1 <CodeSnippet> tag within the <CodeSnippets > tag....

When I add more than one <CodeSnippet> tag to the file (each with their own title, and their own code example) I'm experiencing something strange....

When I use the code snippet only the first code snippet in the file shows up. When I insert this snippet the code in the other <CodeSnippet> tags also appears.

Do you have to have a separate XML .snippet file for each code snippet you want to make available?

When I read the code schema documentation it seems to me that I can put all of my snippets into one XML file.

What am I not getting here?

Thanks,

-Frinny

Hi, Does anyone know where I can find a lot of Python code snippets? I searched the Python wiki and Internet but could not find more than five or ten code snippets at a time. I'm looking for a kind of organized list (GUI snippets, database access snippets, I/O snippets, etc.). I find that there's no better way to learn a language than to be able to cut&paste actual working bits of code.

I'm working on my asp.net site and I'm wondering what the best way to reuse little snippets of code is? Right now I have a Class in it's own cs file that I call Snippets. Then when I want to use something in there (like for example I have Snippets.Logout()) I do the following. Snippets snips = new Snippets(); snips.LogOut();

I'm using VS.NET 2005 beta 2 and am excited about the idea of using code snippets. This is a nice time saver. For example I need to read all text from a file, and see that with a simple command VB.NET will do this for me nicely. However in order for this to work it must be in VB.NET, and all my code is in C#. Are any of the built-in snippets available yet for C# users? Any way around this? For now I've created a utility class as...

Hi, Base on MSDN help, in VS2005 IDE, select "Tools -> Code Snippets Manager", but I cannot find "Code Snippets Manager" under "Tools" menu. Also I noticed when I insert snippets in C#, it has far less options then in VB. How do I show "Code Snippets Manager" under "Tools" menu? Thanks

Hi, all, I am wondering if there are any addons for VB.NET 2005 to complete the codes automatically after I entered two or three characters, just like Delphi does. Thanks, Jack Zhong

I am interested in learning how to use the VS 2005 code snippets. However, I wish to know what are the best ways to source control the code snippets? Are there any source safe/subversion add-ons for this purpose? If not, any urls which demonstrates code snippets management?

All, I have posted this question in various groups, so I apologize for any overlap. I'd like to hear how other developers/architects keep track of old scripts, code snippets, relevant URLs, etc. I think most developers have an area where they keep reusable code they would like to use again. Year after year, we all develop things that can be reused in various projects.
