Using TabControl Cross Threads

1 New Member
Hi all,
New poster here! I'm having some difficulty updating a tabcontrol cross-threads.
The general idea is : the main thread is the owner of the tab control and the form controls. However, due to the vast amount of data to populate listviews within the tabs, I have created a worker thread (an implementation of a BackgroundWorke r) to form the data and populate a tabcontrol 'offline', so that it doesn't interfer with (i.e freeze) the UI. Now the problem I get is, that windows controls are passed by ref not value, and therefore when I give the thread a 'copy' of the current control and pass it back, it isn't a copy, it's the actual thing! I'm trying to implement Clone() in ICloneable, but can't seem to get it right. I need to be able to keep the object as a TabControl, but use the ICloneable class to clone it! Any thoughts or ideas? Although I can't provide code, rough outline is :

Main Thread :
Worker Thread declared
TabControl declared.
Worker thread passed TabControl and started.

Worker Thread :
Local Tab control manipulated

MainThread :
When worker complete, copy its local TabControl to the Main Thread TabControl.

Hope this is helpful.

Cheers,
Chris.

Here's what I want do: Have a main daemon which starts up several threads in a Boss-Queue structure. From those threads, I want them all to sit and watch a queue. Once an entry goes into the queue, grab it and run a system command. Now I want to make sure that system command doesn't hang forever, so I need some way to kill the command and have the worker thread go back to work waiting for another queue entry.

This is a weird problem. when doing trying to add a tabpage to a tabcontrol I get an error: Index was outside the bounds of the array. Now this only happens when I call a function from within a callback for an Async webmethod call. My guess is that it has something to do with the threads not being in sync yet.

I want to place a tabControl with almost identical properties on several forms. I think the best way is to define a UserControl that inherits System.Windows.Forms.TabControl, and place all my controls on it. The problem is that I don't know how to bring up the graphical design interface for the TabControl. I suppose I COULD just design it as a UserControl and place a TabControl on it, but that seems a bit... inelegant (I'm going to...

Hi all, I am using C# and .net 2.0 to automate Word 2003. I have a few event handlers to process word events such as ApplicationEvents4.DocumentChange, etc. The threads that call the handlers are MTA and are belonged to my C# program. Since my program doesn't create any threads explicitly, I would like to know where the MTA threads coming from and why they are MTA rather than STA. Thanks a lot

Hi, I want to try design a TabControl (for instance http://www.codeproject.com/vb/net/MDITabControl.asp). For design inspiration, I would like to know pointers to beautifully looking tabcontrol design either on the web or within applications. BTW: I do not want copy anything: just to see what has been done

Hi all In a Visual Studio 2005 C# project, I have a simplest tabcontrol with two tabpages. When I set tab control's Alignment property to Right, tab texts (captions) disappear. Does anybody know how to fix this? I tried this on two computers, at work and at home, both with Windows XP with latest service packs, and Framework 2.0 and 3.0 with latest SP.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
