Terminology question: Is there a term for a set of records related directly or indirectly by key value in several tables? For example, a single invoice record and its line item records -or- a single customer, the customer's orders, the order lines for those orders, the customer's invoices, and the invoice lines for those invoices. I'm thinking the term might be graph, but I'm not at all certain of this.

I know I can open many instances of a given form, but I've never done it. Now I'm analyzing an application where that seems like just the ticket: Many investment funds, *lots* of data points for each fund, and a desire by the users to see several funds presented side-by-side. Is opening, say, five instances of the same form real-world-doable? -- PeteCresswell

Can you do a search for more that one string in another string? Something like: someString.IndexOf("something1","something2","something3",0) or would you have to do something like: if ((someString.IndexOf("something1",0) >= 0) || ((someString.IndexOf("something2",0) >= 0) ||

I'm trying to build an application with two Forms and to use functions created inside the class of Form1 with controls of Form2. Everytime I create a Form the .NET creates a new class of that Form, which makes it independent from other Forms. How do I call and use functions created in Form1's class in Form2? PS. I do not want to have MDI. I want to have one active

I just read a blurb in MSDN under the C++ "ref" keyword which states that: "Under the CLR object model, only public single inheritance is supported". Does this mean that no .NET class can ever support multiple inheritance. In C++ for instance I noticed that the compiler flags an error if you use the "ref" keyword on a class with multiple base classes. This supports the above quote. However, under the "CodeClass2.Bases" property (part...

This question was posed to me today. Given a C/C++ program we can clearly embed a Python interpreter in it. Is it possible to fire up multiple interpreters in multiple threads? For example: C++ main thread 1 Py_Initialize() thread 2 Py_Initialize()

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
