base64 encoding

In Visual Basic 6 I could take a value from the database and create a byte
array. I could then take the byte array and place it into an Xml document
and specify the datatype of the node as bin.base64. Can anyone tell me how
to accomplish this in Visual Studio .Net 2005?
Sample VB6 code.

Set objElement = objDOMDocument. createNode("Ele ment",
"MessageDat a", "")
ByteData() =
recordset!Messa geData.GetChunk (recordset!Mess ageData.ActualS ize)
objElement.data Type = "bin.base64 "
objElement.node TypedValue = ByteData()
objChildNode.ap pendChild objElement
Thanks in advance

AFAIK there is no such functionality in .NET. Instead you can encode
your bytes in Base64 using Convert.ToBase6 4String() method and store
them in XmlDocument.

Hi, I ma thinking whether to use Base64 encoding to encode the binary content in the XML file. I have done some simple calculations, it seems to me that the size for encoded content increases by ~30%, is this the drawback for using the encoding scheme? Thanks.
