Why doesn't the below code work? I'm trying to create a global object and set an event handler to one of its methods. The function is called, but the object's mTest property is undefined. (What I'm trying to do is make a general-purpose solution for the situation where you have a list box with several associated form elements. When the element values are changed, you want to update the value of the selected list option, and when the...

I have a base class with several derived classes (I'm writing in VB.NET). I want each derived class to have a unique class ID (a String), and I want the derived classes to inherit from the base class *Shared* methods which make use of the class ID. So I gave the base class a classID field, and then I gave the derived classes Shared constructors, which I used to set the classID field to the appropriate values for each derived class. But...

I'm using C# and having problems getting the 'Parse' EventHandler of my binding object to be called. Interestingly, the 'Format' method is always called however. A code snippet: (rdDocument is a private member field of the class and has a string-type property called 'Name') Binding bName = new Binding("Text", rdDocument, "Name"); bName.Format += new ConvertEventHandler(teName_Format); bName.Parse += new...

Hi all. I'm using the Property Grid control in a control to manage a windows service we have developed here. The windows service runs a set of other jobs that need to be managed. The control is used to view the state of the running jobs and schedule new jobs. The control also runs in the context of Internet Explorer (we do this so the administrators of the jobs can always receive the latest control). The property grid is used to...

From reading the documentation, this should be a relatively easy thing. I have an arraylist of custom class instances which I want to search with an"indexof" where I'm passing an instance if the class where only the "searched" property has a value. I expected to get the index into the arraylist where I could then get the entire class instance. However, the 'indexof' is never calling my overloaded, overrides Equals method. Here is the...

Maybe I'm going nuts, but I was so sure that adding the same method more than once to a delegate would result in only one entry on the delegate's call list: this.UpdateEnd += new EventHandler(UpdateStockCode); this.UpdateEnd += new EventHandler(UpdateStockCode); if (this.UpdateEnd != null) { this.UpdateEnd(this, System.EventArgs.Empty);

I've using thread a lot in C#, but all of them were just single method with no return value or paramenters. It may sound bizarre but, can't it be a class? I'm writing an Windows application that processes inputs from a serial port. The serial port data is processed when DataReceived event occurs from the SerialPort instance. If the DataReceived event handler and the MainForm are in the same thread, and the user is calling a method in...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
