licensing

Sal
When creating a business system for a client (I'm doing a class project) in
VB.NET where you want them to be able to view info in Crystal Reports, does
the client have to purchase a copy of VB.NET or VS.NET? With 2 servers and
say, 37 clients running at any given time, you can buy just one of these to
install on the server, and buy licenses for the rest, right?
Please help - feasibility analysis is due in two days!

Does anyone know of a framework or library that will enable me to use publish/subscribe comms? I want to create a server (using Python) running on a Unix box that will accept client connections (from GUIs built with wxPython) and publish realtime data updates to them. Any advice on where to start? Thanks. A.B.

Once Yukon is released (whenever that might be) does anyone from MS have any comment on licensing for Yukon and on SQL 2000. I really don't think anyone with SQL 2000 licenses are going to upgrade because the database admin or even the developer is going to convince management it's worth the cost regardless if SQL server can do C# or VB.NET stored procedures. This is because the performance is terrible and Oracle has had Java stored...

Hi, Not sure if this is the right group for the question: I've just finished a course/certification where I've used Visual Studio and want to work further on software development with C#,ADO,ASP hopefully the end result being an application that can be sold. Before proceeding, I wanted to better understand what licensing costs are involved in the .NET area. I would welcome any corrections to my oversimplified view and any further...

hi, I have a software which has licensing (enabled through flexlm). Now, an end user can build apps (As loadable modules) using this base software. I am introducing a new feature, which I am providing as a .so . The development teams, release schedules, etc. are completely different for the base software and the new .so . 1. Is it possible for me to enable licensing for the loadable .so ?

What is the best/easiest means to return the serial/volume number of the drive containing the OS using VB.NET? I'm looking to get this information as a unique ID for activation/registration of a custom application so as to tie the software to a single PC. I need something that will work with 98, ME, 2000, XP, and newer. Or if anyone has other suggestiosn on best means to generate an ID to tie to a single PC for licensing I'd...

Hi, I have looked through similar posts and have found Ken Tucker giving the reply about looking at article http://windowsforms.net/articles/Licensing.aspx This appears to be for controls and components and though I don't find it easy to understand it seems like it's appropiate for controls or components, but I can't seem to find anything that just applies a licence for my entire application or a licence for using classes, unless I'm...

i had the pleasure to read the PHP's manual today. http://www.php.net/manual/en/ although Pretty Home Page is another criminal hack of the unix lineage, but if we are here to judge the quality of its documentation, it is a impeccability. it has or possesses properties of:

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
