Crystal reports questions

i previously posted the questions below on several crystal reports newsgroups, including the one for

the company that makes crystal reports, but never got an answer, so i'm hoping that someone on this
board knows the answers to them. the questions are for the version of crystal that ships with visual

studio.net 2003. if it helps, the reports that i create are in a visual basic.net project. it was
recommended that i post the questions here.
1) i can't find the "guidelines " feature. has it been removed from the .net version of crystal?

2) do the increase and decrease font size buttons/options not exist in crystal.net? if so, where are

3) in previous versions of crystal, i could delete a field in the detail section of a report and the

field title in the page header would be deleted automatically at the same time. has this
functionality been removed? if not, what option do i need to select so that both the detail field
and field title will be deleted at the same time.

4) is there a way to export the report formulas, like totals to excel?

5) is there a way to export a report definition without writing code?

6) where is the "save data with report" option?

7) what is the "save preview picture" option on the summary tab of the document properties dialog
box suppose to do? how/where can you preview the report, if this option is selected?

8) special fields - is there a way to sort them so that they are in alphabetical order? they were in

alphabetical order in crystal version 8.5, but not in crystal.net

9) what is the "refresh" button suppose to do on the crystal report viewer? when i click on it
nothing happens, or at least i can't see anything happening.

10) is there a way to force data to be refreshed each time a report is run, without writing code?

11) when you do file --> save as to create a copy of a report, why does the original report
disappear from the solution explorer window? is there a way to keep this from happening.

12) report alerts - i've been looking for this feature and can't find it. i know that i've used it
in previous versions, but can't find it in the version of crystal that comes with visual studio.net.

can someone let me know if this is yet another feature that was taken out of the .net version of

thank you

I have a transaction log file where the DataSet table's Description column is actually delimited into "subcolumns" based upon the transaction id. I would like to parse these into separate fields for reporting purposes and am wondering if anyone knows if this is easily accomplished using the .NET version of Crystal Reports? For example, the description column may be reporting on a dataentry error as follows: TXNCODE: 1010001

Hi all, I don't know if I'm at right newsgroup but I've got some questions about integrating Crystal Reports into my own application. I'm totally new regarding Crystal Reports. Therefore I've got some questions: 1/ Is it possible to integrate an end-user reportbuilder using crystal reports? Is it possible with the components and controls that are integrated with Visual Studio 2003?

Hi there to all. I am a .NET Crystal newbie and I hope that you don’t pick me up much :) with the following questions: 1) It’s possible to access the report model to alter the rendered data. I’m talked about a process like .NET data grid, where we can iterate thru the rows and change data. 2) I have a report with a linked sub report. The data targets the same data

Hi! We currently use SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition and Visual Studio.NET 2003. Now, we are comparing the Crystal Reports for Visual Studio.NET 2003 with the SQL Server Reporting Services so that we will be able to choose a reporting tool that works best for us. My questions are as below. 1) Is there any online information available detailing the similarities or differences between the reporting services and the Crystal Reports...

My organization is in the midst of making a reporting tool decision. On the table are Crystal and the reporting functionality in Access. - Report distribution is not a factor - it's all local - Training time is a factor since we have to create a boatload of reports in a short time - The ability for users to modify report formats and data content is required - Cost is a factor - no one wants to spend too much money

Hi, I will be taking on a new project developing a web-based "reporting system". The first requirement I got from BI group is "we just want to look at the data". Basically, there is a huge database, and they want certain people to be able to drill down to the data they want, perhaps a few graphs here and there, and then extract selected data to an Excel file or a flat file for further analysis. As of now there are a handful of parameters...

I am an avid user of the online Microsoft newsgroups, especially for Microsoft Access, and have gotten a great deal of help that way. I am wading into Crystal Reports now and as usual seem to be coming up with questions that nobody has thought of (in my office). Our local Crystal Reports guru seems confused and gives me pat answers for complicated questions. I could really use an "MVP" quality newsgroup for Crystal Reports. I...

Hi I am interested in using crystal reports for the first time but have a few questions that someone maybe able to help with before I get started. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
