no connection in MySQL

i have installed another version of MySQL database, but when i try to make a new connection, this (in the attached picture) appears to me!
what shall i do?

probably you need to remove 'skip-networking' from your config file

where can i find the config file ? ^_^
i have typed : mysql> SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'skip_networking';
in the MySQL command line client to change the skip_networking variable from ON to OFF, but when i type my passwprd, the command window disappears

Where your config file is depends on what OS you use.
It's a file named 'my.cnf'

On unix/linux it should be in /etc directory
