Effect of bandwidth on MySQL ODBC driver

I have a desktop app using dBase which submits data to a MySQL server. Desktop app located in a different building from the MySQL server. Last week we upgraded our bandwidth between our buildings from a T1 line @ 384k which was shared with our phone. Now we have a data only connection @ 3Mb

To run my dBase app I have to use the MySQL ODBC 3.51 version. The newer version 5.xx will not work with dBase.

Here is the actual error message:

Server error [MySQL] [ODBC 3.51 driver] [MySQL-5.0.27] [Lost connection to
MySQL Server during query]

Here is the platform info:

windows xP
dBase 2.6.1.3
BDE 5.2.0.2
MySQL ODBC 3.51

It should be noted when the users click cancel and bring the record up again they can successfully save the data.

Any help is appreciated
