MySQL false empty result set

Hi,
I have a table set up using PHPMyAdmin. When I query the table for data I know is there, I get an empty result.
I can browse the table in PHPMyAdmin, copy and paste data from the table into the search tab and still get an empty result set. Madness seems close by ...

Any assistance gratfully received.

It would help to see the SQL code along with a table definition, sample data, and expected results.
