How many methods of search and when where should use

i am looking for an article/link where i can study that how many methods are there for search in Mysql (for examle like(%),equal(=),full text search etc) and in which case which method is best. I will be very thankful to you if you guide me here or you send me a link to study. Thanks

Hey.

You basically have three options:
  • The typical boolean comparisons. Like: WHERE 'str' = field
  • Then there is the Pattern Matching operators. Those would be the LIKE and REGEXP operators.
  • And finally you can use the Full-text matching capabilities of the MyISAM engine.

If you need anything more complex/flexible than that, you would need to set up something on the side, like Sphinx.
