new MySQL account

Hey everyone,
sorry for the newbie question, but after some problems with configuring mySQL, I was able to create a new user account. My question is, how can I remove the password from the root account? and what should I have done during the installation in order to access the root account without a password. Thank you.

That depends.

The only user that can mess with the root account, is the root account. (Or an account with root-like privileges)
Depending on your OS and MySQL setup method, the installer should either have prompted you for a root password during installation, or the installer left the password blank for you to edit later.

If you already set the password, you would log into the root account like you normally would. If not, you should not have needed to provide the password to log in.

To change the password of an account, you can use the SET PASSWORD command.

SET PASSWORD FOR 'user'@'host' = PASSWORD('newPass');

which operating system are you using and which version of SQL server do you have installed?

I had a 'user does not have permission (error 15247)' with my SQL server 2005 express on my vista business laptop. This was solved by installed SQL server service pack 2.

maybe this isnt the cure for you but worth a try..
