MYSQL: Currency Decimal DataType

56
Hi Everyone,

I won't be asking about what data type to use for currency since I know DECIMAL is the recommended one. My question is what values should I use in DECIMAL(M,D). I will be storing big amounts of currency up to to a million. So what is the precision and scale recommended for these amounts

Thanks a lot

One million is not a very large number at all. The values put there depend on what you want to put as the limits. Most examples show 10,2 but you could want more or less depending on your limits.

Hey thanks for the reply. I somehow figured it out. Anyway most validation will be done on the business logic side so as long as it caters for my datatype setup all will be ok :)

Thanks & Regards,
Luk
