Create database

This is a newbie question. I have installed MySQL 4.1.7-Standard in MacOS X
(10.3.5). I have ONLY database test. According to the manual there should
be TWO. test and mysql. I have re-run mysql_install_db several times with
the same result. Can some mysql guru explain or point me to the right page
to have this mysql database in my system? Thanks in advance.

Did you login as root to MySQL? Because if you didn't, then you propably
see only the test database, which available for all.

Simple method to test if you are a root, give for example this command:
create database xxx;

If that doesn't fail, you are in as a root. If it fails, you are not a
root. ( If you managed to create the database, you can destroy it with
command: drop database xxx; )
