I am new learner. which version of MySQL for me to study?

MySQL 4.0 -- Generally Available (GA) release (recommended)
MySQL 4.1 -- Gamma release (use this for new development)
MySQL 5.0 -- Alpha release (use this for previewing and testing new features)
MySQL 5.0.1 -- Snapshot release (use this for previewing and testing new features)
Older releases -- older releases (only recommended for special needs)

I don't which release to use?

I recommend using MySQL 4.1. It is very stable, and supports a number
of features that 4.0 doesn't (for instance, subqueries).

A 'new learner' should probably take the advice of the makers/maintainers: use
the one that's 'recommended', 4.0
With other versions, you might get unexpected results, but you won't know
whether those are the results of something you did wrong or a bug in one of
the still-in-development versions.
Move up to a more experimental version, when you feel confident about your own
use.
