Questions on MySQL Connector/J

I'm trying to get MySQL Connector to work. I'm using the latest
version, 3.0.15-ga, and Java 1.4.1.

On running this line in my code:

con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/" +
database, "root", "");

I get the following error message:

A nonfatal internal JIT (3.10.107(x)) error 'chgTarg: Conditional' has
occurred in :
'com/mysql/jdbc/Statement.executeQuery
(Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/sql/ResultSet;': Interpreting method.
