Clone of DB

Hi,
Is there a fuction in MySQL to have a clone (on other computer) of the db at
all times? I need this for backup and for load balancing, between systems,
if there is a burst of selects. I use mostly inserts.

In other terms: I would need a system that stays online if one computer with
db crashes and that doesn't lose information while crashing.
Thanks,

Kristoff

Read about MySQL's replication features here:

Thanks!

I found this on the link: "MySQL only supports one master and many slaves.
Later we will add a voting algorithm to automatically change master if
something goes wrong with the current master. We will also introduce
``agent'' processes to help do load balancing by sending SELECT queries to
different slaves."

When is this expected to be ready?

I'm not affiliated with MySQL AB, so I cannot say.
But I don't think even representatives of MySQL AB can give a date set
in stone. I note that their web site lacks a specific release date even
for version 4.1, currently in a Gamma state.

It would be inappropriate for the company to commit to a certain date on
any given feature. Priorities can change, or implementation and testing
can vary in the effort it takes. Features intended for a release of the
product might even be pulled if they are unstable. It is greatly
preferable for the technology to be of the highest quality, than to
release on a fixed date. This is a good practice for any horizontal
software product, not just MySQL.

They do offer on their web site, though, that if you need a feature
released sooner, you can work with MySQL AB on a consulting basis:
