can't run nysqladmin

After running mysqlsd --help, I got the following message:

To see what values a running MySQL server is using, type
'mysqladmin variables' instead of 'mysqld --help'.

However, wheneve I try to the above command or any mysqladmin command
in any context, I get "command not found."

Any idea what's wrong?

Thanks
