concat two tables

sks
I have two tables, one containing payments to a supplier and one containing
invoices issued by a supplier. I'd like to get a total from each table with
one query.

I need somehow to list all payments and all transactions together in one
table result set.

ie,

paymentAmount, transactionAmount
------------------------
100, null
56, null
24, null
94, null
null, 100
null, 56
null, 24
null, 94

If I try doing a normal join then it joins together each combination, ie

100, 100
100, 56
100, 24
100, 94
56, 100
56, 56
etc etc

Anyone help me ?
