I read numerous accounts about how to set ft_min_word_len only
which cannot be done using the SET statement.
The client wants to be able to use a portable web application I
built, with its own customized mini search engine, to be able to search
using 3-lettered words instead of the default 4 set in ft_min_word_len
However, the client wants the change to ft_min_word_len to be
temporary, at application runtime, because the portable app will be
housed within 1 or more servers where other applications will also
be running, and they don’t wish to change the MySQL default
settings that
will affect other applications.
Is this even possible?
Thanx

I resolved this problem with a *difficult* solution. I created an
extra field to hold a copy of the field to be fulltext indexed. Then
every word that was too short was appended with some extra chars e.g.
"__ab". Then when search queries were performed, all search words
would also be attached with the extra stff to make the search work.
This is a *last resort* solution. Hope someone else has a good
solution for you.
