owner of mysqld_safe?

I'm running FreeBSD 4.10 stable with mysql 5.0.0-alpha.

If I type "ps auxwww | grep mysqld"

mysql 180 0.0 2.6 44220 13688 ?? S 11:53AM 0:00.11
/usr/local/libexec/mysqld --basedir=/usr/local --datadir=/var/db/mysql
--user=mysql --pid-file=/var/db/mysql/iz.pid --skip-networking

root 137 0.0 0.1 648 456 con- I+ 11:53AM 0:00.01 /bin/sh
/usr/local/bin/mysqld_safe --skip-networking --user=mysql
--datadir=/var/db/mysql --pid-file=/var/db/mysql/iz.pid

Is it ok for root to be the user/owner/starter of mysqld_safe?

Yes. Daemons are often invoked by your system init script as root.
Also, it must execute mysqld as root in order for mysqld to change its
uid to 'mysql'.
