sorry if this is a well-worn topic. I have seen much discussion of
this on various groups and forums but I haven't really been able to
get a satisfactory answer. It's about the clause in the open source
licence that says:
Free use for those who never copy, modify or distribute. As long as
you never distribute (internally or externally) the MySQL Software in
any way, you are free to use it for powering your application,
irrespective of whether your application is under GPL license or not.
I am writing a commercial software application which connects to a
database and is not free or GPL or open source in any way. Does this
clause mean that the customer can download and install mysql and then
I can install my product and connect to their mysql database without
either of us requiring a commercial licence?
obviously the above quote needs to be taken in the context of the
mysql open source licence at
