is there a addslashes()-type function in mysql or sql

I was wondering if there was a way to automatically add escapes to a
string in either SQL standard or MySQL, such as addslashes() in PHP. I'm
looking for something like the quote() function but without the need for
quoted strings? Anything like that--thanks.

There's char(). A \n is decimal 10, and it can be concatenated with a
string:

select concat('one',char(10),'two',char(10));

one
two
