Temporary Tables in MySQL (using php)

Hello,

I have the following problem:

I have a switch with case 0, 1 and default.

in case 0 I create a temporary table where I insert data then.
When I get to the case 1 in my switch, I want to make a select(*) on
this data in the tmp table, afterwards I delete all data in the table
and insert the select from before...
But when I do this I get always the tmp table does not exists. But
when I do a select on it it works..

Any knowledge about, why it doesn't work?

To descibe the thing a little better:

I have 15 dropdowns which are filled from my table.
When I select e.g. Hardware all the other Dropdowns depend on the
first one, so the DigiCam drop down will be empty, because it has
nothing to do with hardware.
So when I select harddrives then I have all harddrives.
The data is, so to say, downsized each time I select.

lets say we wanna have all IBM 2,5" harddrives, soe we it like that:

The first dropdown selection is made on my original table.
I select hardware from original table. Put this data now in TMP Table.
the next select on tmp table is to select all harddrives from the tmp
table, and all the other data in TMP table must be deleted. So we have
only harddrive in tMP table. After the new selection of IBM we will
delete all other harddrives from tmp table so that we have only ibm
Harddrive in my tmp table.

Got it? :-)

I know its complicated - thats why I ask here - because you are the
professionals.

puhh...I explained it! Please bear with me if not anything is said so
perfectly...
