MySQL database on an NFS share

Is it safe or are their any concerns with using MySQL which is shared
via NFS? Any specific optimizations, tuning concerns, documentation,
tips or tricks for using MySQL with NFS?

Currently I'm using MySQL 4.0.15 on Sun Solaris 9, might end up using
Linux, but the OS really doesn't matter to me.
