SQL query for keywork search

I need to give users of my website the ability to run a keyword search through the database. In this process however, I only want user keywords to be matched against complete words in the database.

e.g. LIKE '%god%' also matches 'goddamn' but I don't want it to.

The kind of regex I'm looking for is something like: LIKE '%[^a-zA-Z]god[^a-zA-Z]%'

And although this page says it might be possible - http://www.devasp.net/net/articles/display/702.html, the petit problem is i'm using mysql, which returns 0 results whenever I use the following wildcards - [, ^ or -

Hope someone can help. Thanks!

Try this simple select statement format:

SELECT column FROM table
WHERE column operator value

example:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. SELECT * FROM person
  2. WHERE FirstName='Peter'
  3.
