Query question using variables

Hi

I have a rather basic question about queries.

How do you replace a value in the sql string with a variable in Perl and
TTML?
The problem is I attempting to query a log table based on a date range, a
owner code, a group of project codes. The goal is a table that shows all
the dates for the month for the client and the time spent on each project
that was done for the day on the row giveing total time spend for the day
as well. By colume the total for the project for the month.
This is the attempt in TTML

[% FOREACH item = DBI.query("SELECT * FROM csc_log_tb
WHERE (project_code = 'ECF_Bill_HH_WO'
AND start_date = '2003-10-')
")%]

I want to replace the value for startdate with a variable.
Thanks
Shanta
