Compress protocol and SSL

Some questions...

1 I would like to use compress protocol
I do this

MYSQL* m = new MYSQL;
m.option.compress = true;

unsigned int Flag = 0;
Flag = Flag | CLIENT_COMPRESS;

mysql_real_connect(m, "host", "user", "password", "db", 3306, NULL,
Flag);

it's all ok
my question is

Do I must set "m.option.compress" or I can only write "Flag = Flag |
CLIENT_COMPRESS;" to use compress protocol?

2 I would like to use SSL protocol
I do this

MYSQL* m = new MYSQL;

unsigned int Flag = 0;
Flag = Flag | CLIENT_SSL;

mysql_real_connect(m, "host", "user", "password", "db", 3306, NULL,
Flag);

it's all ok???

I'm not sure if it's all ok?
