Is this a temporary file?

Hi All

I found some files in mysql directory with names like
#sql-358_2698.MYD. Is this a temporary file created by an alter table
statement? May I delete it since all my tables are ok?

Thanks in advance

I'm a newbie of about six months or so but I have worked with DBA's before
and some features like this, and their purpose, are familiar to me... but...
I'm not 100% sure...

I believe the files you are refering to are log files that record any
changes to your databases... Everytime there is a change to your data, its
recorded in these log files... You can use them to rebuild you database
should it become corrupted (due to system crash or power loss / non-proper
shutdown).

You can delete them, though new files will be created every so often by the
database... If you do want to delete them, it might be safer to shutdown the
database first, or else delete all but the most recent file (check the
timestamp).

You're likely to have something in your my.ini or my.cnf file that switches
this feature on though I am unsure how... I hope over the comming months to
learn more about things like this.
