Got error 9 from table handler

I was trying to add privileges to the MySQL db to make it recognize
connections from some new IPs, but when I issue the following command:

mysql> grant all privileges on *.* to root@IP;

I get this message:

Error 1030: Got error 9 from table handler

Anyone knows what this means and how it can be fixed?

Thanks,

Eddy
