MySQL Configuration Problem

114 100+
Hello, what is the configuration requirement for PHP 5.2.5 and MySQL 5. I have correctly configured PHP 5 and Apache Server but not able to connect to MySQL. I get the error "Undefined function mysql_connect" tho' i have uncommented the extension=php_mysql.dll from the php.ini file. Is there anything more to be configured as to make it work??

Plus, i have a problem with the PHP files. Infact i have PHP4 files which works well in the current configured environment. But i m not able to open the files of PHP5 properly. The running file on the browser shows the code aswell. im not sure if i have any configuration mistake or the files itself. Infact i m using the files which are downloaded from the net.

So please help me. I have not been able to configure Apache2,PHP5 and MySQL5 for a month. I have followed everything as guided by some link still then it has proved futile. Please kindly help me with every possibilities.
