"can't connect to mysql server 'localhost' (10061)"

Hello,

I was using MySQL till a few days ago just fine. Now everytime I try to run
it using mysql.exe, I get the following error:

"can't connect to mysql server 'localhost' (10061)"

What can I do to get rid of this? (What is 10061?)

FYI: I just did this as well:

C:\Program Files\MySQL\afterinstall\bin>mysqladmin ping
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)'
Check that mysqld is running on localhost and that the port is 3306.
You can check this by doing 'telnet localhost 3306'

C:\Program Files\MySQL\afterinstall\bin>telnet localhost 3306
Connecting To localhost...Could not open a connection to host on port 3306 :
Con
nect failed

What's going on? What should i do?
