Hi there
Does anyone know what is the maximum column length for a table in a
MySQL database? I was thinking of storing feedback in the form of text
in the database. How feasible is this? Would appreciate any insights
or suggestions.
Thank you again
Joe
In part, I believe one of the limitations is the table type you are using...
I am using the latest version 3 and have the MySQL windoze "chm" help file
which says:
"The maximum size of a BLOB or TEXT object is determined by its type, but
the largest value you can actually transmit between the client and server is
determined by the amount of available memory and the size of the
communications buffers. You can change the message buffer size, but you must
do so on both the server and client ends."
Its unlikely your feedback form though will hit the limit - I have a guest
book on my girlfriends website that I have limited to 2000characters (using
PHP I perform a substr() to get the first 2000). But I believe in theory I
could get away with megabytes (millions of characters) of text.
