Problem with install database script?

[lpc]

can someone please tell me how to get the install script to work? i
also have problem with the user permission. how do you set it up so i
could login with a user name and password.

i am running Mandrake 9 and the lastest version of MySQL

I had the same problem (when I installed the 'rpm' on a SuSE system) and
copied these notes because I was sure I'd need them at some point:

/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'new-password'
OR
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h machinename password 'new-password'

mysqladmin might sit somewhere else on your machine - the above is a direct
copy from my command prompt.
