Could not start MySQL server: ERROR 0

Hello,

I've installed MySQL using "MySQL Server 5.0.27.exe" on a remote server machine on Windows 2003 server.
But when I try to configure server instance using MySQL Server instance config wizard, at the last step I get the error indicating that could not start MYSQL service. Even when I try to start it from Control Panel->Administrative tools->Services I get the same error!
Any idea would be appreciated,

Hi, and welcome to TSDN!

I've looked arround for a solution, and I have a few suggestions.
  • Are you doing an update from an older version? If so you will not be able to simply install this over you old version, you must(should) backup you old data, uninstall the old version, install the new one and finally restore you old data.
  • It's possible that the data files got somehow corrupted during the Installation. Assuming there is no data you want to keep, locate the 'data' directory in the MySQL install dir, and delete the following files: 'ibdata1', 'ib_logfile0' and 'ib_logfile1'. Then try to run the config again.
  • Try uninstalling MySQL, then reinstall into a path that contains no spaces.

Hope this helps.
