PostgreSQL vs Mysql

I am doing some consulting for a lawfirm. They have a program called
time matters which is database driven. The software vendor says that
it works with postgreSQL but they were not sure if it will work with
mySQL. They will only proivde a trial version of the software if they
purchace it first. And that is all the help they offer. The problem is
that the firm does not want to do this without knowing that it works,
understandable because it is expensive.I have pretty good experience
with mySQL but I have always stayed away from the postgreSQL so my
question is...does postgreSQL work the same in the manner of SQL calls
and such as mySQL? I understand that other things are done like adding
user and such are different but I was wondering if the underlying
process was the same....The program needs to replicate changes fairly
frequently between three servers. Any help that anyone can provide
would be great Thanks!
